We care a hell of a lot!
Costume Hell gives to charities across the USACostume hell is a family run business that helps non-profit organizations build strong communities across the United States. A percentage of our profit goes to worthy nonprofit organizations. That means that after paying the bills we give away part of what we make to charity. We see a great need to support programs that make our communities and people stronger. As the president of a non-profit organization (Hike Everywhere/OC Hiking Club) I became aware of the needs of my own organization and of other non-profits and found that creating awareness and generating funds are the two most critical elements. Thus Costume Hell is helping nonprofits raise funds as well as create awareness and better the lives of people across the USA. Why do we do this?Because we can. You may have noticed that Costume Hell is a little funky and along with that we have a peculiar desire to help. We do things a little differently and that seems to work. Costume Hell is a family run business that does random stuff like hell-p and other odd freakish things. Dare to be different and hell-p others achieve their dreams. —
Charities include:1. CASAA national program that supports abandoned and abused children with special volunteers or CASA’s which are Court Appointed Special Advocates. “Whatever time you have to devote to a child, it’s more than that child has ever had.” — Sue and Steve Forestadt, CASA Volunteers This year there are almost one million abused children in the US who are caught up in the court system because they were pulled out of a violent home. Once the kids are removed, they often lose their parents and then are put into temporary housing. Their lives are filled with strangers: police, foster parents, therapists, social workers, judges, lawyers and doctors. CASA volunteers are special volunteers that are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for these children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the system or put in an inappropriate group or foster home. The volunteers represent the child in court and are active with the child until a safe and permanent home is found. For many abused children, the CASA volunteer is the only consistent and positive adult presence — the only adult who cares for them. www.nationalcasa.org
2. Hike Everywhere, Suki’s Kids in Need Hikes“We are all raising these children through our attention or indifference — we are all role models.” — Suki Reed Hike Everywhere takes Kids in Need (abandoned / abused / orphaned children) into nature on outdoor hikes accompanied by positive adult role models. Based on the book, Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv talks about the importance and the healing effect of nature. Through magical outdoor nature experiences volunteers are having a lasting impact on children who have been violently abused and have often never been outdoors in nature. Step 1: Local AgenciesIdentify local agencies that work hand- in-hand with Social Services such as CASA, Orangewood, etc... Step 2: Volunteer led hikesHike leaders take these deserving kids and their mentors on short day hikes. Not only is it beneficial for the kids, but it raises awareness of Kids in Need within the local community. Step 3: Exploration of NatureKids get to explore nature at their own pace with positive adult role models. Step 4: ResultsTestimonials show that these kids experience benefits such as increased self-esteem and confidence, a sense of accomplishment, connection with nature as well as a new awareness of nearby outdoor areas. The combination of positive adult attention and the magic of the outdoors has a big impact. Hike Everywhere is developing a national model with OC Hiking Club to implement across the US. www.HikeEverywhere.com
